X11 are not part of the default Solaris 11-setup, and if you want stuff like Oracle Database you may feel the urge of having X11 to perform the installation. I did a fresh install of 11.2 on a Dell PowerEdge R610, and wanted a GUI for easy testing of VirtualBox etc.
In order to install the necessary components you should have success following these steps
Issuing this command (either as root or sudo-style) will install the necessary libs
root@solaris:~# pkg install SUNWarc SUNWbtool SUNWhea SUNWlibms SUNWmfrun SUNWxorg-client-programs SUNWxorg-clientlibs SUNWxwfsw pkg://solaris/SUNWxwplt truetype/fonts-core
This does not install any GDM, and most likely you won’t have any installed
root@solaris:~# svcs -xv gdm svc:/application/graphical-login/gdm:default (?) State: - Reason: Service is incomplete, defined only by profile /etc/svc/profile/generic.xml. To install this service, identify and install the package which provides the service's primary manifest. Use "pkg search 'svc\:/application/graphical-login/gdm\:default'" to identify th e package, then "pkg install <pkg>" to install the indicated package. Impact: This service is not running.
root@solaris:~# pkg search 'svc\:/application/graphical-login/gdm\:default'

When the installation has completed just do a reboot and if graphics card has been detected successfully AND is supported you will be greeted with a nice Solaris GUI
